How to Import a Spreadsheet (CSV or Excel)

Upload a .csv, .xlsx, or .xls file to create flashcards or quiz questions in Nebulearn.

If you already have cards in Excel or Google Sheets, upload the file instead of typing everything again.

Column layout

Flashcards

Column AColumn BColumn C (optional)
Term / questionDefinition / answerExplanation

No header row required. Row 1 can be your first card.

Example:

"Photosynthesis","Plants convert light to chemical energy",""

Quiz questions

Column AColumn BColumn C–EColumn F (optional)
QuestionCorrect answerWrong answersExplanation

Column B is always the correct answer.

Example:

"What is 2+2?","4","3","5","6","Basic math"

Step-by-step

  1. Open Import in the card editor.
  2. Pick Flashcards or Quiz Questions.
  3. Choose CSV / Excel.
  4. Upload .csv, .xlsx, or .xls.
  5. Preview loads in the editor. Fix any rows that look wrong.
  6. Save to a folder.

Google Sheets workflow

  1. File → Download → Comma Separated Values (.csv)
  2. Upload that file in Nebulearn.

Or copy cells and use plain text import if you prefer pasting.

Excel tips

  • Only the first worksheet is read. Put cards on sheet 1.
  • Quote fields that contain commas: "Term, part 2","Definition"
  • Extra columns beyond the layout are ignored.

Common issues

Wrong columns mapped

  • Flashcards need at least two columns (term + definition).
  • Quiz needs question + correct answer + at least one wrong answer.

Garbled characters

  • Save CSV as UTF-8 from Excel if you see broken accents.

Empty import

  • Check that the first sheet has data and you're not uploading a blank template.

After import

Edit vague cards before your first review. A 10-minute cleanup beats reviewing 200 sloppy cards.
